Pap/Pust/Ves/Derma Flashcards
A common papillomavirus of the skin or mucus membranes. Spreads via direct contact or by autoinoculation. Most common viral infection of the skin.
Verrucae (Warts)
Pathophysiology of Warts
Virus grows within the nucleus of the keratinocytes and eventually overflows and spills into the cytoplasm. Lesion lies entirely within the epidermis
A roughened surface with multiple black dots, is tender with side to side pressure, and has absence of skin lines
Verrucae (Warts)
A flesh toned, scaly papule of varying size, usually with visible black dots. Most frequently on hands and fingers.
Common Warts (Verruca Vulgaris)
Moist, soft papillary projections producing cauliflower-like growths on the mucous membranes of the penis, vulva and perianal region. Can be spread to the face.
Urogenital Warts (Condyloma Acuminata)
Are present on the plantar surface of the foot. Appear like a sharply circumscribed callous. Frequently surrounded by a collar of hyperkeratosis. Multiple black dots representing thrombosed capillaries, bleed with removal of the surface.
Plantar Warts (Verruca Plantaris)
