Pancreas Anatomy Flashcards
What is the function of pancreas
Both endocrine produce and release glucagon and insulin
Exocrine produce enzymes form Acinar cells that are released into the pancreatic duct
What part of the pancreas produces insluin
B cells located in the Islets of langerhans
What type of organ is the pancreas
Retroperitoneal except the tail
What spinal level is it located at?
L1 in the transpyloric plane
What are the anatomical relations to the pancreas
Superiorly splenic artery
Laterally spleen associated with tail
Anteriorly: stomach transverse mesocolon superior mesenteric artery
Posteriorly: IVC, Aorta, left kiney and left adrenal gland.
What is the arterial supply basic
Branches of pancreaticoduodenal artery which stems from the Gastroduodenal artery which stems from the hepatic artery which stems from the celiac trunk
Branches from the splenic artery which stems from the celiac trunk
What is the venous drainage
Splenic vein aside from the head that drains into the superior mesenteric vein
What surrounds the islets of langerhans
Acinar cells separated by a thin reticular capsule
What cells are present within the islets of langerhans
Alpha cells located peripherally
Beta cells produce insulin located centrally and are the most numerous
A few Delta cells the produce somatostatin
