Adrenal anatomy Flashcards
Where are the adrenal glands located?
In terms of the kidney, the peritoneum and their spinal position?
superomedial to the kidney
retroperitoneal
found between T11 and T12
What is the arterial supply to the adrenal glands
Superior adrenal arteries
Middle adrenal arteries
Inferior adrenal arteries
where do the left and right superior adrenal arteries stem from?
The R and L inferior phrenic arteries which stem directly from the abdominal aorta
Where do the middle adrenal arteries stem from?
Directly from the abdominal aorta
Where do the inferior adrenal arteries stem from?
the Left and right renal arteries
What is the microvasculature of the adrenal gland?
Arteries and venous drainage
Cortical arteries irrigate cells of the cortex and join the medullary arterioles
Medullary arterioles directly into the medulla and from extensive network
capillaries in both cortex and medulla join to from the medullary veins that drain into the adrenal veins
What is the venous drainage of the adrenal gland?
Right and left adrenal veins
Right adrenal vein drains directly into the inferior vena cava
Left Adrenal vein drains into left renal vein and then into the IVC
