Name the structures contained in the pancreas:
Main pancreatic duct.
Common bile duct.
Common opening into the Ampulla of vater - Leading to the 2nd part of the duodenum.
Surface Anatomy: Name the levels of the Head, body and tail of the pancreas.
Head- L2
Body- L1
Tail- T12 into the hilum of the spleen.
What structures are found anterior to the Pancreas?
Transverse mesocolon
The stomach
What structures are found posterior to the pancreas?
Aorta Inferior vena cava Superior mesenteric artery Portal vein and splenic vein Left kidney Left suprarenal gland Splenic hilum Bile duct
What is the innervation of the pancreas?
Autonomic nervous system:
- mainly parasympathetic innervation
What is the blood supply of the pancreas?
Anastomoses between the following arteries.
Coeliac trunk -> Gastroduodenal artery -> Superior pancreaticoduodenal arteries (Anterior and posterior)
Superior mesenteric artery -> Inferior pancreaticoduoenal arteries (Anterior and posterior)
What is the venous drainage of the pancreas?
Pancreatic vein -> portal vein
