DM type I patient sterotype
Juvenile
Thin
Insulin dependent
DM type II patient stereotype
Obese
Receptor site malfunction
Most dangerous type of diabetes?
Gestational?
Type II DM story
- High glycemic sugars break down fast, requiring rapid storage
- Wears out receptor sites and/or insulin manufacturing
- Hypoglycemia AKA hyperinsulinemia (may or may not occur)
- Muscle starvation leads to fat storage depletion (temporary loss of weight)
- Fat metabolism = ketones, ketoacidosis, fruity breath and urine
- Crud in blood: leads to hypertension, arterial disease, infection, etc.
- Glycosylation of tissues and organs; leads to systemic illness
DM type II test
BEST: A1C
Others: FBS, GTT
DM type II TX
Motion, essential fats(no trans-fats), protein, chromium, probiotics
Glycation definition
When sugar combines with protein causing inflammation and free radicals
