What is palliative care?
An approach that improves QOL of pateints and families facing life threatening illness
i.e. Physical, Psychosocial and spritual
How are palliative medications given in patients who cannot tolerate them orally?
Continuous subcutaneous infusion via syringe driver.
What is a syringe driver?
A pump containing a mix of up to 3 medications with a butterfly needle for subcutaneous administration
Which medication is given for pain or SOB?
Morphine
Which medication is given for distress?
Midazolam
Which medication is given for Nausea/agitation?
Levomepromazine
Which medication is given to reduce respiratory secretions?
Buscopan
What is a just in case box?
Used for sc symptom control in peoples homes to prevent delays in symptom relief
