Paracetamol Contraindications (1)
A
- Children under 1 month of age

Paracetamol Precautions
A
- Do not administer if given in the last 4 hours
- Max dose 4g in 24hrs (adult) or 60mg/kg (paeds)
- Risk of hepatotoxicity in following circumstances
- Impaired hepatic function / liver disease
- Elderly / frail
- Malnourished

A
- Serotonin syndrome
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) within the last 14 days
- Late 2nd stage labour

- Rhinitis, rhinorrhoea, or facial trauma (IN route)

A
- Suspected non-traumatic brian injury with severe hypertension (SBP over 180)

- May exacerbate CV conditions due to effects on HR and BP - eg uncontrolled hypertension, stroke, recent MI, cardiac failure

A
- Pre-existing renal disease (renal impairment or failure)
- Known or genetic susceptibility to malignant hyperthermia

A
- Do not exceed max dose 6mL in 24 hrs (nephrotoxicity)
- Do not administer in confined space - ensure adequate ventilation in ambulance - place penthrox in closed plastic bag when not in use - limit occupational exposure
