Define
What purpose does it serve
A
rapid in onset and varies in intensity from mild to severe
- our body’s protective nature –> warns us of tissue damage or organic disease and triggers autonomic responses such as increased heart rate, fight-or-flight response, and increased bp
- after the underlying cause is resolved acute pain disappears
Examples of causes of acute pain: a pricked finger, sore throat, or surgery
