Cleaning stage
Flushing out

What is happening during repair stage?
Granulation tissue forms Collagen laid down for strength Epitheleal cells form on top Nerves reconnect Scab falls off
What happens during Maturation stage?
Scar tissue solidifies
Densely packed collagen
Scar Tissue forming
Never as strong as original tissue
What factors can affect wound healing?
Host factors (nutrition, diabetes) Wound characteristics External factors (drugs etc)
What are the types of wounds?
Abrasions (scrapes) Lacerations (cuts) Avulsions (tearing) Degloving Puncture Burns Decubitus Ulcers
What are the contact layers for bandaging?
Wet-to-dry (primary)
Dry to dry (secondary)
non adherent (tertiary)
What layer is “vet wrap?”
Tertiary
What is the basic protective layer?
Protects wound from bacteria and more damage
What is a cast?
Rigid bandage made of fibreglass
Stops movement at both ends
What is a Robert jones bandage?
Lots of padding that is then condensed.
What are splints?
Half cast, stabilizes joints but only half circumference around limb
What is a sling?
Used for dislocated joints
Holds joint in place
