Pain Flashcards
What type of feeling do AB-fibers transduce?
Touch and pressure 2nd fastest (35-75 m/s)
What type of feeling do AD-fibers transduce?
Pain and cold
They are myelinated so very fast
Sharp, prickly pain
What type of feeling do C-fibers transduce?
Pain, temperature, touch, pressure, and itch
Unmyelinated, so slow
“second pain”: dull and aching
What is substance P?
It plays a role in heightening pain response.
It causes vasodilation, degranulation of mast cells, and release of histamine and prostaglandins
Increases the expression of pain receptors in the periphery
Acetaminophen pediatric dosing
10-15 mg/kg q4 prn
Ibuprofen pediatric dose
5-10 mg/kg q6 prn

ionotripic GABA receptors
They are PAMs
