page 2 Flashcards
formation and production of the CSF happen
All day long- composition carefully controlled
The formation and production of the CSF is BY….
the choroid plexus
The Choroid plexus is made of 2 special parts: which are cells working togethr to maintain blood CSF barrier. List the 2 parts of the Choroid plexus?
- ependymal cells with TIGHT JUNCTIONS
2.Special fenestrated capillaries- brings ions (Na+, K+), glucose, CO2, O2 to be filtered into CSF
where is the choroid plexus found?
lateral, 3rd, 4th ventricles
How much CSF made a day?
BUT how much CSF fill the whole system?
500 ml/day
150 ml
= turnover
the CSF leave the ventricles gets into the ____________
How does it do this?
subarachnoid space
thru the median and lateral apetures in roof of the 4th ventricle then flows around outside brain and spinal cord
then the CSF gets reabsorbed back into the
venous blood of the superior sagittal sinus thru the arachnoid granulations/villi
IF the CSF circulation thru ventricles or arachnoid villi/ granulations not working this means
Hydrocephlaus which will increase head circunfrence in infants
CSF is composed of
O2, Co2, glucose, ions,
to test CSF it can be sucked out with a needle =
Lumbar puncture
between L3 + L4 OR L4 + L5
= Cauda Equina here
