PAG 1.1 determination of the composition of copper II carbonate basic Flashcards

1
Q

method

A

1) get a tub of water and fill a measuring cylinder with water place it upside down in the tub
2) conical flask with a stopper and a tube going into the cylinder with water
3) weigh 1.5 g of copper II carbonate basic
4) add the solid to the conical flask and replace the bung
5) measure out 50 cm3 of 1.0 mol dm-3 sulphuric acid
6) remove the bung and quickly add the acid to the flask and replace the bung
7) collect the gas in the measuring cylinder and record the final volume of carbon dioxide

Q

what are the possible errors?

A

some carbon dioxide may have escaped before putting the bung on
all the copper carbonate didn’t react
carbon dioxide could have dissolved in the water
some of the copper carbonate remains on the weighing boat
