Paeds S6 Flashcards
What is a stained fissure?
discoloured, brown or block
or area of white/opaque enamel but no cavitation
What are the tests to diagnosis the stained fissure?
- Visual (dry tooth)
- Probe/explorer
- Bitewing radiographs
- Electronic
- Fibre optic transillumination
- CO2 laser
- Air abrasion
If the lesion is small but extends to dentine, what should be done?
preventive resin restoration (PRR) or sealant restoration (SR) can be provided- this is where the defect is filled with a small amount of composite then sealed over the top with a fissure sealant.
If the lesion is large, what should be done?
conventional composite restoration
What can the extraction of the FPM at the right time allow?
allow the development of a caries free dentition in the adolescent, without spacing.
bifurcation of 7 happens at 8 years (ensures 7 will erupt and close space)
What if the child is not the ideal age for extractions and has teeth of poor prognosis, what should be done?
preformed metal crowns (PFMC) can be placed
an provide a chance at keeping them symptom free until the ideal extraction time
