What are the causes of Clubfoot deformity?

A

Idiopathic, but there is a genetic link

Describe the deformities in clubfoot deformity

A

FOUR deformities:

  1. Midfoot Cavus = meaning it is concave/curled.
  2. Forefoot Adductus =meaning it is distorted towards midline.
  3. Hindfoot Varus = meaning it is laterally displaced and curved to displace the distal part medially (like genu varus)
  4. Hindfoot Equinus = the foot is relatively plantarflexed and dorsiflexion is
    limited.

Mnemonic to remember is “CAVE” deformity

-Examine hips for associated DDH
-Examine knees for deformity
-Examine back for dysraphism(spine bifida(

A

Largely non-operative via Ponseti technique (serial manipulation and casting
