what must be assessed maternally when their is a stillbirth?
life-threatening maternal diseases (pre-eclampsia, chorioamnionitis, placental abruption)
rhesus D negative
what test is done on the mother to assess rhesus status?
Kleihauer test to assess FMH
what is administered if the mother is rhesus negative with a rhesus positive baby
anti-D gammaglobulin
what situation is anti-D administered?
mother is rhesus negative with a rhesus positive baby
debrief arrangements of stillbirth/ miscarriage
- emotional/ physical wellbeing of parents
- results
- discuss steps for next pregnancy if ready
what is sudden unexpected death in infancy (SUDI)?
when an infant dies for no apparent reason
intrinsic to child risks of SUDI
acute illness preterm congenital abnormality multiple birth previous small for gestational age male
extrinsic to child risks of SUDI (family and environment)
depression alcohol and substance misuse smoking poor housing/ overcrowding domestic violence co-sleeping
SUDI education/ risk reduction
keep away from smoke put in cot, don't fall asleep holding baby sleep on back head covered and face uncovered breastfeed
define SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome)
no pathology or RF present
diagnosis of exclusion
