What are the types of Juvenile Idiopathic arthritis
Oligoarticular - Persistent and extended
Polyarticular - RhF negative and Positive
Enthesitis - related arthritis
Psoriatic arthritis
Systemic arthritis
What do we mean by Juvenile Idiopathic arthritis?
Juvenile: Onset before 16th birthday.
Idiopathic: No identified underlying cause.
Arthritis: Persistent joint swelling (or painful restriction of movement) lasting at least 6 weeks.
How do we make a diagnosis of Juvenile Idiopathic arthritis?
No pathognomonic features in JIA
So X-rays and blood tests needed
S + S of JIA
- Swelling - persistent
- Joint stiffness (morning)
- Loss of range of movement
- Pain
- Joint deformity
- Warmth
- Colour change
What do we mean by oligoarticular?
Less than 4 joints
Which joints are affected the most by JIA?
Knee - 56%
Ankle - 20%
Wrist - 4%
Elbow - 2%
Small joints -10% hands
Small joints -6% feet
