A child presents to your GP office with blister formation which is worse in the flexural and periorificial areas. The child is generally unwell with fever and irritability and a runny nose. The blisters are extremely tender. What is the diagnosis and what should you do?

A

Staphlococcal Scaled Skin Syndrome. Staph Aureas infection releasing exotoxin leading to blister formation. ABCDE approach, can be life threatening, administer IV Abs early and control pain. Reassure parents that condition should resolve within a couple of days and that it is usually non-scarring

An infant presents to your GP surgery with crops of pearly lumps less than a millimetre across with an umbilicated centre. The lumps have come on quickly and the mum thinks that it is similar to lumps her other son had 2 weeks pervious. What is the most likely diagnosis?

A

Molluscum Contagiosum

Caused by viral infection, these are harmless and will clear up when the child develops his own immunity
