emollient
soap substitute- dermol 500
steroid- hydrocortisone for face and eumovate for trunk and limbs
What should you consider in young child with eczema?
food allergy! association with failure to thrive? GI upset?

Neonate with bullae formation peripherally around umbilicus. What is a potential diagnosis?
Bullous impetigo
What is the treatment for bullous impetigo?
atopical antiseptic
oral antibiotic- fluclox (take swabs)
What is an important diagnosis to consider for bullous impetigo?
toxic epidermal necrolysis (more common in adults)
What is a serious complication of eczema?
eczema herpeticum, if located near the eye then concern for corneal ulceration
What are you testing for in samples from eczema herpeticum?
virology- HSV and VZV
What is the treatment for eczema herpeticum?
oral aciclovir
What is the management of scabies?
topical permethrin cream
What precaution do you have to take when someone is diagnosed with scabies?
treat the whole household!!
Localised areas of allopecia with erythematous plaque on scalp. What is a potential diagnosis?
tinea capitis- fungal infection
What findings might you observe on clinical examination on tinea capitis apart from the obvious scalp changes?
palpable lymph nodes
What is the treatment for tinea capitis?
systemic antifungal
topical therapy and antifungal shampoo (not effective alone)
Should you treat viral warts?
usually no
What is the exception for treating viral warts?
if extensive then consider immunocompromise
