Stages of the physical assessment with focus on diagnosis and treatment
- ABCDE – BLS primary survey of systematic assessement
- Generalised head to toe assessment – divide body into sections, flexible with order
- Focused system assessments – detailed assessment of specific body system related to presenting problem
What are the two divisions of the head to toe assessment approach?
1.Observation – subjective data – accounts from child and parents of presenting issue and history. Alongside activities of living – 1. What do you see, hear, feel and are told.
- Measuring – objective data – baseline vital signs, inspection, palapation. – analysis interpretation of objective and subjective - dependant on good communication skills.
What assessment tool used for assessing dehydration in children under 5?
Traffic light system of symptoms
To assign green, amber or red which correlate symptoms to if a child has no clinical dehydration, 5% clinical dehydration or clinical shock!
