P9 - Motion✔️ Flashcards
What does the gradient on a distance time graph represent?
Speed
Equation for speed?
Speed,v = distance travelled,s / time taken , t
What would a stationary object look like on a distance time graph?
Stationary - horizontal line
What will an object moving at a constant speed look like?
Straight line that sloped upwards
What is velocity?
Velocity is speed in a given direction - example: two objects can have the same speed but have different velocitys because they are moving in different directions
What is displacement?
The distance moved in a straight line in a given direction from the starting point
What is acceleration?
The acceleration of an object is its change of velocity per second - units m/s^2
Equation for acceleration?
Acceleration = change in velocity / time taken for change
a = v - u / t
Units for acceleration?
m/s^2
What is deceleration?
Deceleration is the change of velocity per second when an obeject slows down
What does the gradient on a velocity time graph repersent?
Acceleration
What does a horizontal line on a velocity time graph repersent?
The acceleration is zero
How is negative and positive acceleration shown on a velocity time graph?
Positive gradient - positive acceleration
Negative gradient - negativee acceleration
What does the area under the line on a distant time graph repersent?
Distance travelled
Gradient of a line?
Gradient = y/x
