P9 Flashcards
What does the gradient of a line on a distance-time graph represent?
Speed
What are long-distance vehicles fitted with to check that the drivers do not drive for too long?
Tachographs
What is the velocity?
Speed in a given direction
What is acceleration?
The acceleration is change in velocity of an object per second.
How do you calculate acceleration?
Change in velocity divided by time
How do you calculate deceleration?
Same as acceleration as answer below zero. (The change in velocity will be negative.)
What does the gradient of the line on a velocity time graph represent?
Acceleration
What does it mean if the line on a velocity time graph is horizontal?
There is no acceleration
Describe the velocity of an object moving round in a circle?
Itβs direction of motion changes continuously as it goes round, so its velocity is not constant, even if its speed is constant.
What is displacement?
The distance travelled in a given direction.
What is the formula for acceleration?
Acceleration (a)= change in velocity (πΊv) Time taken (t)
Extended formula for acceleration?
Acceleration=final v -initial v
Time taken
What is deceleration?
Used for any situation where an object slows down.
What can you use to record how the velocity of an object changes?
A motion sensor linked to a computer.
How to find the displacement from a velocity-time graph?
Find the area under the graph.
