P8 Flashcards
What is a Scalar Quantity?
Has size/ magnitude but NO direction
What is a Vector Quantity?
Has size/magnitude AND dieectiom
What is the difference between Speed and Velocity
Speed is a SCALAR ; only magnitude
Velocity is VECTOR ; magnituide and direction
What are examples of Contact Forces?
- Friction
- Air Resistamce
- Stretching
What are examples of non-contact forces?
- Magnetic
- Gravitational
- Electrostatic
What is Newton’s 3rd Law?
When 2 objects interact with eachother, they exert EQUAL and OPPOSITE forces on eachother
What is Netwon’s 1st Law?
If forces acting on an object are balanced, the resultant force is 0
What is the Centre of Mass?
The central point at which the mass of the object acts through.
What is Displacement?
Distance in a given direction
What is Resultant Force?
A single force that has the same effect as all the forces acting on an object
What is Newton’s 2nd law?
and formula
Resultant Force = Mass x Acceleration
Acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the resultant force
