P10 Flashcards
What is Mass?
The amount of a substance - measured in kg
What is Acceleration?
An objects change in velocity
What is the formula to find Force?
F = Mass x Acceleration
What is Newton’s 2nd Law
The acceleration of an object is PROPRTIONAL to the resultant force on the object
Inversely proportional to the mass of the object
What is Weight?
The downward force exerted by an object due to its mass and the gravitational pull of a planet
What is the formula for Weight?
Mass X Gravitational field strength
What is Inertia?
Means a resultant force is needed to change a velocity
What is Terminal Velocity?
The velocity reached by an object when the drag force on it is EQAUL & OPPOSITE to the force making it move
What is Stopping Distance?
The distance travelled by the vehicle in the time it takes for the driver to think and brake
What is the Formula for Stopping Distance?
SD = Thinking Distance + Braking Distance
What is Thinking Distance?
Distance travelled by the vehicle in the time it takes the driver to react
What 4 factors that can affect Thinking Distance?
- Poor Visibility
- Tiredness
- Alcohol
- Distractions
What is Braking Diatance?
Distance travelled during decelleration whilst the brakes are being applied
What 4 factors affect Braking Distance?
- Speed of vehicle
- Mass of vehicle
- Conditions of brakes & tires
- Condition of road
What does Hooke’s law state?
Force is proportional to the extension of a spring
