P4 - Electric circuits Flashcards
P4 - What are the characteristics of a series circuit?
The current only has one path to flow in.
The same current passes through each component.
Current is the same everywhere.
The voltage supplied by the battery is
shared by each component.
The total resistance can be found by adding together the resistance of each component.
P4 - What are the characteristics of a parallel circuit?
The current has two or more paths to flow in.
The total current of the whole circuit is the same as the sum of currents passing through each branch.
The voltage supplied by the battery is the same across each branch.
Resistance in a parallel branch is equal to the sum of the resistance of all the components in that branch.
The more resistors you add in parallel, the lower the total resistance of the circuit becomes.
P4 - How do you calculate charge?
charge flow = current × time
P4 - How do you calculate PD (voltage)?
potential difference = current × resistance
P4 - Which equation links power, potential difference and current?
power = potential difference × current
P4 - Which equation links power, current and resistance?
power = (current)2 × resistance
P4 - Which equation links energy transferred, charge and PD?
energy transferred = charge flow × potential difference
