P4 Electric Circuits Flashcards
Cell (battery)
A cell ‘pushes’ the electrons around a complete circuit.
Switch
A switch enables you to break and complete a circuit, so turn on and off.
Bulb (Indicator)
Emits light when current flows through it.
Fixed Resistor
A fixed resistor limits the current in a circuit.
Variable Resistor
A variable resistor allows the current in a circuit to be varied.
Thermistor
A thermistor allows the current depending on the temperature
Fuse
A fuse is designed to melt and break the circuit if the current is too great.
Diode
A diode allows current through in only one direction
Light-Emitting Diode (LED)
A light-emitting diode (LED) emits light when current passes through it
Light-Dependent Resistor (LDR)
A light-dependent resistor (LDR) decreases in resistance as light intensity increases
Ammeter
A ammeter is used to measure electric current (Amps)
Voltmeter
A voltmeter is used to measure electric potential difference (voltage).
What is an electric current?
An electric current flows around the circuit to power circuit components
What is the measurement of electrical charge?
Coulombs (C)
What is the unit of current?
Amperes (A)
