P14 Light Flashcards
What is a Conves Lens?
A convex lens make parallel rays converge (focus) towards the centre of the lens.
What is a Concave Lens?
A concave lens makes parallel rays diverge away (spread out) from the centre of the lens.
How do you find magnification?
Image height/Object Height
What is the method for Ray Diagram?
Ray 1- A ray passing through the optical centre, 0, of the lens from the object.
Ray 2- A ray parallel to the principal axis, which refracts through the lens, passing through the principal focus.
Ray 3- A ray passing through the principal focus (on the same side as the object) and being refracted through the lens, emerging parallel to the principal axis.
What is Ray 1 in the Ray Diagram?
Ray 1- A ray passing through the optical centre, 0, of the lens from the object.
What is Ray 2 in the Ray Diagram?
Ray 2- A ray parallel to the principal axis, which refracts through the lens, passing through the principal focus.
What is Ray 3 in the Ray Diagram?
Ray 3- A ray passing through the principal focus (on the same side as the object) and being refracted through the lens, emerging parallel to the principal axis.
What is the Law of Reflection?
The reflected waves move away from the barrier at an equal angle to the incident waves.
What is the Law of Refraction?
Refraction of waves is the change of direction of the waves when they travel across a boundary, from one medium to another.
How do Lens work?
A Lens forms an image by refracting light.
