P4 Flashcards
what is a force
the push or pull on an object that caused by it interacting with another object
what is it called when objects need to be touching for the forces to act
contact forces
what is the normal contact force
push forces
what is friction
the contact force when two objects tend to slide past each other
what are non-contact forces
forces between two objects that aren’t touching
how do non-contact forces work
the forces are caused by fields around the objects
example of a gravitational force
the attractive force between the sun and earth for example
example of a electrostatic force
the attraction or repulsion of charges when their electric fields interact
example of a magnetic force
the attraction or repulsion between two magnets due to their magnetic fields
when two objects feel a force what is this called
an interaction pair
explain why a ball bounces back when hits a wall
because the ball is feeling a contact force which pushes it back as the mass of the ball is less than the wall
how to calculate speed
average speed (m/s) = distance (m) / time (s)
how to calculate acceleration
acceleration (m/s2) = change in speed (m/s) / time taken (s)
how to work out gradient
change vertical / change horizontal
