P3-Particle model of matter Flashcards
What is the arrangement of a solid
Strong forces of attraction how the particles close together in a fixed, regular arrangement. The particles don’t have much energy so they can only vibrate about their fixed positions
What is the arrangement of a liquid
There are weaker force of attraction between particles. The particles are close together, but can move party Chubba, and from The regular arrangements. They have more energy than the particles in a solid – they move in random directions at low speeds
What is the arrangement with the gas
There are almost no force of attraction between particles. The particles have more energy than liquids and solids – feel free to move, and are constantly moving around of direction and speeds
How is pressure created
The force exerted by the particles bouncing off the side of the container
How does increasing the temperature increase the pressure
by increasing the temperature increases the kinetic energy stores meaning that the speed of the particles increase and they hit the side of the container more often
How do you work at the density of material
Mass/density
What is a dense material
I don’t material has its particles are packed tightly together
What is internal energy
Energy stored by the particles in a substance. It is of some of the kinetic and potential energy stores
What is specific latent heat
The amount of energy needed to change one KG of a substance from one state to another without changing its temperature
What is equation for specific latent heat
Energy = mass X specific latent heat
What’s the transition from a solid to a liquid
Melting
