P3 Flashcards
What is condensation?
Gas cooled down to liquid
What is density?
The amount of mass in a volume. It tells us how tightly matter is packed together
What is evaporation?
Liquid to gas after heating
What is freezing?
Liquid to solid after cooling
What is gas temperature?
The temperature of gas is directly proportional to the average kinetic energy of its molecules
What is the internal energy of something?
Energy stored in a system by the particles that make it up
What is the latent heat of something?
The energy required for a substance to change state
What is melting?
Solid to liquid when heated
What are pascals?
The unit of pressure, equal to a force of one Newton acting perpendicular to an area of one metre squared
What are physical changes?
Changes to the physical properties of a substance which can be REVERSED. Changes of state are an example of this because they’re reversible
What is pressure?
The force acting perpendicular to a surface, per unit area
What is absolute zero?
-273 degrees celcius
No particles are moving
What is specific heat capacity?
The amount of energy required to raise 1kg of substance by 1 degree
What is the specific latent heat of fusion?
Amount of energy to change the state by 1kg of a substance from solid to liquid whilst held at a constant temp
What is specific latent heat of vaporisation?
The amount of energy required to change 1kg of a substance from a liquid to a gas state whilst held at a constant temperature
