P2 Flashcards
What is charge
The value of electricity flowing in a circuit
What is current
The flow of electrons
What is potential difference
Potential difference pushes current around
What is resistance
Resistant slows down the current
Thermistor uses
LDRS uses
Central heating
Street lights, security lights
Mains electricity in the UK
230 V
50 HZ
Different wires in a plug
Livewire (brown)
- provides potential difference
Earth wire( yellow/green) - stops appliance becoming live
Neutral wire (blue) - carries current away
Fuse purpose in a plug
The fuse melts if too much current goes through, acts as a safety feature
Cable grip function in a plug
Holds the wires in place
The National Grid structure
1) power station
2) step up transformer
- low voltage > high voltage so energy can move efficiently
3) step down transformer
- high voltage > low voltage so it’s safe to be in homes
4) houses
