P2 Flashcards
Equation for acceleration
acceleration= (final velocity-inital velocity)/ time taken (v-u)/t
Displacement
Distance with direction. It is also the shortest distance between two places
Distance
The measure of length with meters as its unit
Distance-time graph
a graph with distance on the y-axis and time on the x-axis. The slope represents the speed. Therefore, a horizontal line indicates a stationary object.
Rate
a quantity that changes with time
Scalar quantity
A quantity with magnitude but without direction. E.g mass, energy, temperature, speed, distance
Speed
the rate of change of distance. It is a scalar quality and has the units m/s
Equation for speed
Speed=distance/time s=d/t
Vector quantity
A quantity with both magnitude and direction. E.g force, displacement, velocity
Velocity
Speed with direction. It is a vector quantitiy and has the units m/s
Velocity-time graph
A graph with velocity on the y-axis and time on the x-axis. The gradient is a measure of acceleration. The area under the line is equal to how far the object has travelled
Equation for velocity
displacement/ time taken
Decceleration
when acceleration is negative. Slowing down.
Acceleration
rate of change of velocity. It is a vector quantity and has the unit m/s/s
