P11/12-Waves Flashcards
Describe waves
They are described in different ways transverse and longitudinal
What is a transverse waves?
When the movement of the waves is perpendicular to the direction of travel of the wave
What is a longitudinal wave?
When the movement is parralel to the direction of travel of the wave
What properties do waves have?
-frequency
-time period
-amplitude
What is frequency?
The number of a wave that passed each second they are measured in Hz (Hertz)
What is the time period?
What is the amplitude?
The height of the wave
What is the calculation for wave speed (v)?
Wave speed = frequency (f) x wavelength (λ)
What the equation for waves?
Wave speed v (m/s) = frequency f (Hz) x wavelegnth
What is the equation for the period?
Time period T (s) = 1/frequency (Hz)
What is the eqution for frequency?
T = 1/1’ 10(9)
What is the equation for the speed of the waves on string?
Wave speed = frequency x wavelength
What is the the difference between frequency and amplitude?
Frequency - is refered to how many times a wave has occured
Period - is the reciprocal of the frequency
