P10 Forces And Motion Flashcards
Equation for force
F=MxA
Force(N) = mass(kg) x acceleration(m/s2)
Equation for mass
M= f/a
Mass = force divided by acceleration
What is the thinking distance
The distance a car travels before the brakes are applied
What is the braking distance
The distance a car travels whilst the brakes are being applied
What is the stopping distance
The sum of the thinking distance and the braking distance
Equation for weight
W =Mxg
Weight = mass x gravity
Equation for momentum
Momentum = velocity x mass
What does it mean when momentum is conserved
Whatever the momentum is before it is the same after.
What is an inelastic collision
The objects stick together after the collision, the momentum is conserved but kinetic energy is not
What is a perfectly elastic collision
The objects seperate after the collision, momentum and kinetic energy is conserved
Equation for kinetic energy
Ek= 1/2MxV2
Kinetic energy= 1/2 mass x velocity squared
What happens if you increase the time to crash
You increase safety
What is Newtons 2nd law
Force = change in momentum/time
What is inertia
The tendency for objects to continue at the same speed in the same direction
What does directly proportional mean
Linear and go through (0,0)
