P10 Flashcards
What is it meant by mass?
Mass refers to the amount of a substance - the amount of matter in a substance /object.
This is measured in kilograms (k)
What is it meant by acceleration?
Acceleration refers to an object change in velocity(either going faster or going slower).
This is measured in m/s2
What is force
A force is a pull or push on an object.
You cannot see this force but u can often see what this object does
What can forces do?
Forces can change the speed of something of something(speed up or slow down), in the direction it is in or its shape .
What are the units for force ?
F=m x a
What are the equation when you rearrange them?
F= m x a
A=f /m
M=f / a
What is the force exerted by an object of a mass of 15kg acceleratingat 3m/s2?
F= m x a
Force = 15kg x 3m/s2
= 45N
What is Newton second law?
The acceleration of an object is proportional to the resultant force acting on the object,and the inversely proportional to the mass of the object.
How is weight and mass different?
Mass refers tot he amount of a substance the amount of matter in substance/ object measured in kg
Weight is the downward force exerted by a object due to its mass and gravitational pull of a planet.
How to work out the weight ?
Weight = mass x acceleration due to gravity
The weight of a 70kg person and the gravitational pull is 9.81
Work out how much newtons
Weight = mass x acceleration due to gravity
W= 70kg x 9.81m/s2
= 686.7N
What is inertia?
The tendency for an object to stay at rest or to continue in uniform motion ( constant velocity) is called inertia.
What is newtons second law?
The equation is newtons second law. Where the acceleration of an object is proportional to the resultant force acting on the object
What is the equation for weight is equal to force
F = m x a = w = m x gravitational field strength
What is the equation for momentum
P = m x v
