Houses paid for and built by someone, often a charity, where poor people/old/sick live when they can’t work.

Ancient Greek temple of healing - the equivalent of our hospitals.
Autopsy
The opening up of a corpse to try to find out why a person has died.
Cauterise
To burn skin/flesh of a wound with a heated instrument / caustic substance to stop bleeding or prevent infection.
Cesspits
A pit or hole in the ground for dispose of sewage.
Doctrine of Signatures
States that herbs that resemble various parts of the body can be used by herbalists to treat aliments of those parts of the body. (dates from Galen’s time)

If you bought an indulgence from the church, the church would lessen he punishment for your sins so you can get into heaven quicker after you died.

Death rate which is usually measured per thousands of the populations.

Gardens used solely for growing herbs used in preparing medicines and treating illnesses
Purgatory
Christians believed this is where you’d go if you were in between going to Heaven/Hell, like a waiting room till you pay of your sins and can go to Heaven.
