P1 Intergration Flashcards
What is integration used for?
To find areas under curves
How would you find the area between a curve and a line
Integrate the curve and subtract the area under the line
What is different about find the area under the x-axis
The area value will be negative, however you can’t have a negative area so you must formally dismiss the negative and leave it positive.
When the area is both above and below the x-axis how must you figure it out
By working out the top bit and the bottom bit separately and adding them together
Intergration is the reverse of what process?
Differenciation
If dy/dx = kx^n then what does y=?
y= (k/n+1)x^(n+1) + c
How do you find the particular constant of integration C?
- Integrate the function
- Substitute a known coordinate (x, y) on the curve
- Solve the equation to find C
What is an indefinite Intergral?
Indefinite integration means “without limits”. Ensure +C is written at the end to indicate a possible constant.
What is definite integration?
When you are integrating between 2 limits.
How do you calculate the area of a rectangle?
Width x Height
How do you calculate the area of a trapezium
(a+b)/2 x Height where a and b are the 2 sides separated by the distance of height.
How do you access the integration function on a calculator?
Catalog -> Func Analysis -> Integration
What format must all values be in before integration?
kx^n
What does a constant become when integrated?
kx where k is the constant
What does “find f(x) when f’(x)” or “find y= when dy/dx =” mean?
Integrate the gradient function
