When are navigation lights tested and by who
Tested daily 1 hour before sunset by the duty ET
Who must give permission before testing navigation lights
Permission is given by the OOW/OOD
Where are navigation lights controlled from
Navigation lights control panel (NLCP) on the bridge, versatile console system (VCS) 428 in the on the quartermasters console, and the VCS161 in the opps room
List all navigation light colours and locations
Red (port),
Green (starboard), white (mast head steaming light forward and aft) (stern light)
List all special operations lights
Not under control (2 steady red lights on mainmast)
RAS (2 steady red lights port and starboard & 1 white light each side between red lights)
Man-over-board (2 flashing red lights port and starboard )
Where are special operation lights switched on from
The VCS 428
List all other miscellaneous lights
Anchor lights: top of the fwd and aft jackstaff white in colour.
Masthead obstruction: red port and starboard at top of mainmast
How are emergency lights fed
Fixed in positions adjacent to their normal counterparts and are supplied via fixed wiring by two series-connected 12 volt batteries
Why is is important to switch on the emergency NUC/RAS lights before being hoisted.
If hoisted then plugged in an induced current may be present due to radar and radios aerial interference
