What is the output of the generators fitted to a Type 23? And why do we produce such a voltage?

A

•Diesel generators -
1.3MW, 600V, 61.2Hz, 3 Phase.
•Because a 450V AC system wouldn’t have given a large enough range of speeds when using the electrical propulsion system.

A

A

Sheddable services are non-essential equipment that are run off sheddable EDP’s that can be tripped from the SCC to reduce the motor generator demand on the 650v generators, thus increasing the power available to the propulsion system.

What would happen if we were to lose both motor generators and how is this achieved?

A

If we were to lose both generators, we would need to re-configure a 600v generator as a 450v generator to supply the 450v system. This would be achieved via a 4 position switch at the rear of the switchboard.
