Nothing lasts forever, not even me (writing about mortality)
I met a traveller from an _______ land
Antique
Old- sit on a shelf collecting dust- have no real purpose except to be admired, can be considered boring.
Shows that nothing lasts forever- Ozymandias was once ‘king of kings’ but over time, his power faded and him and all his ‘works’ became antique.
Negative imagery of Ozymandias
‘Frown’ -noun
‘Wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command’ -alliteration, harsh sound. Sneer-noun
Juxtaposes Ozymandias’ vision of immortality
‘Lifeless’ - adjective
____ on my ______, ye Mighty, and _______!’
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!
Ironic because this shows that he expected himself to be immortal/ always be ‘king of kings’ which obviously didn’t happen.
Makes him look ridiculous and shows he’s arrogant because of how this juxtaposes with being an ‘antique’.
Nothingness quotes
‘Decay’- noun
Colossal wreck’ : colossal- adjective, wreck- noun
‘Boundless and bare’- alliteration emphasises nothingness
‘Lone and level sands stretch far away’ - alliteration and sibilance
Lone- adjective
Could represent his expectations of being immortal
‘Half sunk’
‘Shattered’
Name meaning
Ozy- Greek ‘ozium’ - ‘to breathe’, ‘air’
