Q

Why does there have to be a lone pair of electrons for hydrogen bonds to form?

A

So hydrogen can line up with them

Q

Why do liquids with hydrogen bonds have high viscosity?

A
  • stronger the IM forces, more difficult it is for atoms to slide over each other

Q

Explain how reservoir molecules contribute to the enlargement of the ozone hole.

A
  1. Low temperatures of Antarctic winter lead to formation of stratospheric clouds, contains small particles
  2. Vortex of air forms, reservoir molecules adsorb on to surface of particles, where they react
  3. Cl2 is released as gas, when temperatures rise Cl2 is broken down into chlorine radicals
