Oxygen Therapy Flashcards
What oxygen therapy level is considered Adequate and what actions are required?
SpO2 >= 92%
No O2 is required.
What oxygen therapy level is considered mild-moderate hypoxaemia and what actions are required?
SpO2 85-91%
Titrate O2 flow to SpO2 of 92-96%
- Initial dose of 2-6L/min via nasal cannulae.
- Consider simple face mask 5-10L/min
What oxygen therapy level is considered Severe Hypoxaemia? What are the actions required?
SpO2 <85%
- Inital dose nonrebreather mask 10-15L/min
- If inadequate Vt, Consider BVM ventilation with 100% O2
- Once Pt Haemodynamically stable and has reliable O2 Reading. Titrate o@ flow to SpO2 of 92-96%.
- If Pt deteriorates or SpO2 remains <85%.
- BVM ventilation with 100% O2.
- Consider SGA.
What Critical Illnesses required management under Severe Hypoxaemia?
- Cardiac arrest or resuscitation.
- Major trauma/head injury
- Shock
- Severe sepsis
- Anaphylaxis
- Status epilepticus
- Ketamine sedation
What conditions are considered under the Chronic hypoxaemia in the Oxygen therapy guideline?
- COPD
- Neuromuscular disorders
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Bronchiectasis
- Sever Kyphoscoliosis (severe curve of the spine)
- Obesity
What is the target Sp02 and actions are taken under the chronic hypoxaemia?
- Titrate SpO2 of 88-92%
if no critical illness present
- initial dose of 2-6L/min via nasal cannulae.
- consider simple face mask 5-10L/min
- If Pt deteriorates or SpO2 remains <85% Rx as per severe hypoxaemia.
What conditions require Nonrebreather mask, regardless of spO2?
- Toxic inhalation exposure
- Decompresson illness
- Cord prolapse
- Postpartum hemorrhage
- Shoulder dystocia
- Cluster Headache
What oxygen L/min is required for nonrebreather mask?
10 - 15 L/min
What oxygen L/min is required for Nasal Cannulae?
2 - 6 L/min
What oxygen L/min is required for simple face mask?
5 -10 L/min
What oxygen L/min is required for Nebulisation?
8L/min is required to ensure effective nebulisation
