Oxygen Therapy Flashcards
1
Q
NASAL CANNULA
A
commonly used for stable pts.
02 concentration deliverer to alveoli ranges from 24-44%
1-6L/min
02 flow rates of more than 4L need to be humidified
2
Q
SIMPLE MASK/HUDSON MASK
A
oxygen and room air
5-10L/min
min flow rate of 5L/min
3
Q
PARTIAL REBREATHER
A
face mask and reservoir device low flow can deliver 40-70% oxygen flow rate= 6-10L/min o2 flow rate should keep the reservoir bag at least 1/3 to 1/2 full on inspiration
4
Q
VENTURI MASK
A
24-50% o2 delivery
concentration is controlled by interchangable colour coded valves
good for people w/ chronic hypercarbia and moderate/severe hypoxemia
5
Q
NURSING CONSIDERATIONS WHEN ADMINISTERING O2
A
- sit pt upright
- check o2 sats to see if o2 therapy is effective
- choose right type of o2 therapy
- if over 4l/min should be humidified to prevent drying of mucous membranes
