oxygen delivery systems Flashcards
nasal cannula (low flow)
1-2L/min = 24-28%
3-5L/min = 32-40%
6L/min = 44%
For patients with chronic lung disease, limit rate to the minimum oxygen saturation to maintain a level of 88-92%
nasal cannula (high flow)
maximum flow 60 L/min
10L/min = 65%
15L/min = 90%
High flow nasal cannula oxygen delivery is often better tolerated by children than other noninvasive delivery methods.
Simple Mask
Low flow
5-8L/min = 40-6-% (5L/min is minimum setting)
This mask is only meant for patients who are able to breathe on their own, but who may require a higher oxygen concentration than the 21% concentration found in ambient air.
partial rebreather mask
low flow
8-11L/min = 50-70%
set flow rate so that the mask remains two thirds full during inspiration
nonrebreather mask
low flow
10-15L/min = 80-95%
venturi mask
high flow 4-6L/min =24-40% blue = 24% yellow = 28% white = 31% green = 35% pink = 40% orange = 50%
