Oxygen Delivery Systems Flashcards
Simple face mask
For short term oxygen therapy or to deliver in an emergency
5-8 L
MINIMUM flow of 5L to flush co2 from mask
Venturi mask
Acute respiratory failure
4-10L delivers exact desired selected concentrations of o2
Aerosol or humidity can be added
Partial rebreather mask
Concentration needs to be raised
Not usually for COPD
6-15 L
Non rebreather mask
Most frequently used for client with deteriorating status who may require intubation
60-100% at a rate of flow that maintains the bag two thirds full
Trach collar
High humidity and desired oxygen to the client with a tracheostomy
T bar or t piece is used to deliver the desired fio2 to the client with a trach, laryngectomy or endotracheal tube
Who would use a nasal cannula
With chronic airflow limitation and for long term oxygen use
1-6 L
