Q

Where does oxidative phosphorylation

A
  • Reduced NAD and FAD oxidised to release H atoms which split into protons and electrons
  • electron transfer chain - loosing energy as it goes down
  • energy released by electrons used to produce ATP
    -chemiosmotic theory
  • oxygen is the final electron acceptor
  • produces water as a by product

Q

Chemiosmotic theory

A
  • Energy used by electron carriers to actively transport protons from matrix
  • protons diffuse into matrix down an electrochemical gradient via ATP synthase
  • releasing energy to synthesise ATP from ADP + PI
