mastitis vs breast abscess epidemiology, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment?

A

mastitis:
*common in lactating women BY S. AUREUS
*unilateral erythematous, tender, swollen breast tissue
*clinical diagnosis
*treatment is supportive by encouraging breastfeeding, analgesics, cold compress. no improvements in 24 hr: start empiric antibiotics

breast abscess:
*complication of mastitis
*same symptoms with fever, chills
*clinical diagnosis (imagine show ring enhancing lesion)
*abscess drain and antibiotics

fat necrosis vs mammary duct ectasia epidemiology, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment?

A

fat necrosis:
*hx of breast trauma
*irregular mass, ecchymosis, erythema
*imagine: oil cyst, biopsy: foam cells
*no tx needed

mammary duct ectasia:
*inflammation of lactiferous/subareolar duct
*common in perimenopause
*unilateral nonmilky GREY/GREEN discharge (or bloody), subareolar tender mass
*imaging: dilated lactiferous duct
*no tx needed
