Overview Cerebrovascular and neuroanatomy Flashcards
What is a stroke?
Neurologic deficit due to abnormal bloodflow to the central nervous system
Transint Ischemic attack with symptoms lasting less than 24 hours
What are the different types of strok?
Ichemic ~ 85%
hemorhagic ~ 15%
How can you tell the difference between a Ischemic stroke or Hemorragic stroke Via CT?
Infarct = dark
Blood = bright

Anterior communicating artery (ACOM)
Posterior communicating arteries (PCOM)
Lacunar vessels
What will posterior cerebral artery mostly present with?
visual pathway defects
What is alexia?
Lesion affecting the left occipital lobe and crossing fibers from the splenium of the corpus collosum. Disconnects Vision from Language. Can write but cannot read
Which part of the parietal lobe is which part of the spatial attention?
left prietal lobe - right spatial attention
right parietal lobe- bothe left and right spatial attention
only notice problem if there is stroke in right spateial attention
What is gaze preference and how i it affected with a stroke?
- When frontal eye field is activated, the eyes look away from the activation
- When the frontal eye field is impaired, the eyes look toward the lesion
What is the core of a ischemic stroke?
what is the penumbra?
Core- infarcted tissue that cannot be saved
Penumbra- Ischemic tissue tat is still alive but is dysfunctional that can be saved
What is virchows Triad?
