amitriptyline overdose
TCA overdose
increases serotonin and noradrenaline by slowing the re-uptake but also blocks histamine, cholinergic and alpha-1-receptors
symptoms- anticholingeric effects. dilated pupils, dry skin, confusion, urinary retention and tachycardia. prolonged QTc internal with wide QRS (can lead to V arrhythmias)
cocaine overdose
agitation
restlesness
tachycardia
hypertension
sertraline OD
seretonin syndrome
hyper-reflexia
muscle rigidity
tremor
morphine OD
respiratory depression
reduction in conscious level
diazepam
some sedative effect (reduction in GCS) and respiratory depression
generally has little effect on HR and ECG
salicylate overdose (aspirin)
hyperventilation
tinnitus
metabolic acidosis and respiratory alkalosis
tx: urinary alkilinisatoin or harm-dialysis
organophosphate poisoning
muscarinic toxicity: diarrhoea miosis bradycardia bronchorrhea emesis hypotension
treatment: IV atropine therapy (blocks the action for he acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors)
* pralidoxime chloride works to reactivate the inhibited acetylcholinesterase.
