What is the antidote to opioid overdose?
Naloxone
What antidotes are there to paracetamol OD?
- N-acetylcysteine (if more than 1 hour after ingestion or if staggered OD)
- Activated charcoal if <1 hour since ingestion
If >4 hours since paracetamol OD, use nomogram
What is the antidote for tricyclic antidepressant OD?
IV bicarbonate.
May require dialysis if severe
What are the signs and symptoms of tricyclic antidepressant OD?
- Tachycardia
- Dry skin
- Dry mouth
- Mydriasis
- Urinary retention
- Ataxia
- Drowsiness
- Coma
What are the signs and symptoms of benzodiazepine OD?
- Drowsiness
- Ataxia
- Respiratory depression
What is the antidote to benzodiazepine OD?
Flumazenil
What are the symptoms and signs of methanol OD?
- Visual problems
- Blindness
Alcohol intoxication symptoms
What is the antidote to methanol OD?
Fomepizole or ethanol
Haemodialysis if refractory
What are the signs, symptoms and complications of anti-freeze (ethylene glycol) OD?
- Metabolic acidosis
- Tachycardia
- Hypertension
- Acute kidney injury
Symptoms are similar to alcohol intoxication
What is the antidote to ethylene glycol (anti-freeze) OD?
Fomepizole
Haemodialysis if refractory
