Follicular cyst
Pathology of follicular cyst
Follicle doesn’t rupture but grows until it becomes a cyst, usually resolves over a few months
Endometriosis definition
Endometrial glands and storm outside the uterine body
If found in ovary known as
Chocolate cyst
Complications of endometriosis
Pain, cysts, adhesions, infertility, ectopics and malignancy (endometrioid ca)
Classifications of ovarian tumours
Epithelial, germ cell, sex-cord/stromal
Subtypes of epithelial ovarian tumours
Serous, mucinous, endometriosis, clear cell, brenner, undifferentiated
Classification of the epithelial tumours
Benign, boderline and malignant
Serous carcinoma precursors
High grade = Serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma
Low grade = Serous borderline tumour
Brenner tumour is usually
Benign
Most common germ cell tumour
Teratoma
Teratoma characterised by
Cystic, containing hair and teeth, mostly benign
Dysgerminoma typically affects
Children and young women
Sexcord/Stromal tumours
Fibroma, granulosa cell and sertoil-leydig cell
